The history and culture of retsina in the wider area of Thessaloniki as an element of enhancing the competitiveness of the local tourist product.
The main objective of the EU co-financed project within the framework of the Action of National Scope: “Research – Create – Innovate Second Cycle” is the creation of an innovative thematic tourism experience based on the history and culture of retsina, one of the most emblematic products of the Greek culinary tradition.
The experience will target the visitors of the city of Thessaloniki, capital of Central Macedonia, and homeland of modern, high-quality retsina. The audience targeted by the research and the product that will result from its implementation will be both the general consumer audience and the professionals in the field of wine and gastronomy in general. The research will focus on linking academic research to entrepreneurship by exploiting the potential of new technologies in order to create an experience based on interactivity and combining entertainment with education (edutainment).
The aim of the industrial research is the creation of a product that will add value to the touristic product of Thessaloniki, a rising destination of urban tourism, through the promotion of the culinary history and the culture of the city. The ultimate objective is to enrich the tourist product of the region, operating in the direction of expanding the tourist season and increasing the per capita consumption of visitors from the European Union, the USA, the Far East, and Australia.
